Supreme Surana saunter into semis

4 March 2012, IISc Gymkhana Ground, Bangalore: Surana College achieved the highest successful chase in the IISc Centenary Cricket Cup 2012 with astounding ease thus booking a semifinal face-off with Vijaya College.

Christ University would have been more than happy after posting a healthy 171/7 in 25 overs thanks largely to a swashbuckling 79 from skipper Ashwin. But the Surana batsmen show cased their class with an effortless chase riding on Hemanth 'He-Man' Kumar's hard hitting knock of 63 and a cool finish by Mohit (26*) and Vinay (29*).

Surana won with as many as six wickets and 3.2 overs to spare in what should normally have been a stiff chase.

Brief scores: (25-overs match)
Christ University - 171/7 in 25 overs
(Ashwin 79, Raju Kalal 37, Manjunath 1/16, Vinay 3/26, Mohit 2/35)
Surana College - 172/4 in 21.4 overs

IISc drub CMS, reach semis

4 March 2012, IISc Gymkhana Ground, Bangalore: Salil's superlative knock of 75 not out and Vikram's fiery spell of 4.2-0-18-4 ensured team IISc a semifinal berth as they drubbed CMS College by 35 runs in their last league stage match of the IISc Centenary Cricket Cup 2012.

IISc were 4/2 in the very first over but Salil's assured knock held the innings together as the home team managed to post a competitive 151/7 in 25 overs. Rudrajeet (3/12) was the pick of the bowlers for CMS.

CMS needed to chase down the target in 16.2 overs to qualify for the semifinals. In pursuit of the virtually impossible task, they briefly seemed to be in the fight when Sparsh (26) started some clean hitting. But Vikram's timely spell helped IISc bundle out the opposition thus booking a semifinal showdown with Presidency College on Saturday.

IISc Gymkhana - 151/7 in 25 overs
(Salil 75*, Rudrajeet 3/12, Arjun 1/30, Hazarika 1/30, Piyush 1/33)

IISc beat Sirur Park in YSR opener

25 February 2012, HAL Ground, Bangalore: Playing their first match of this year's YSR Cup, team IISc beat Sirur Park Sports Club by a narrow two-wicket margin thus making it to the second round of the knock-out tournament organized by KSCA.

Sirur Park were tottering at 45/5 before the sixth wicket alliance of Prathik (44) and Vijeth (93*) steadied the ship with a stubborn partnership. Sudheer (3/17) and Lalit (3/21) picked up three wickets apiece for IISc in restricting Sirur Park to 236/8 in 50 overs.

Kiran's characteristic blitz (74 off 55 balls) at the top of the innings put IISc's chase on course before the loss of a few quick wickets put IISc at a precarious 124/5. Varun (32) and Lalit (21) took IISc closer to the target but another mini-collapse meant that the job of getting the last 31 runs was left to number nine and ten. Sudheer (9) and Rajath (12) held their nerve in the tense chase to guide IISc home with sixteen balls to spare.

Brief scores: (50-overs match)
Sirur Park SC - 236/8 in 50 overs
