Vijaya stifle IISc in humdinger

26 February 2012, IISc Gymkhana Ground, Bangalore: A stingy spell of 5-0-20-2 from left arm spinner Anil IG choked IISc's attempt at chasing 153 in 25 overs as they were restricted to 146/5. Thus Vijaya College completed their second win in as many matches in the IISc Centenary Cricket Cup 2012.

Varun Gowda (44), Ganapathi (30) and Santosh (31) contributed to Vijaya's par total of 152 as the home team managed to bowl out the opposition in the 23rd over via an intense team effort from the bowlers and the fielders. IISc effected as many as four run-outs in the innings.

The chase was set on course through solid contributions from Salil (35) and Ashith (34). Later on Varun (37*) guided the chase with the required rate swelling. But Anil's stifling bowling ultimately made the difference as IISc fell short by six runs.

Brief scores: (25-overs match)
Vijaya College - 152 all out in 22.4 overs
(Varun Gowda 44, Ganapathi 30, Santosh 31, Teja 2/34, Ashith 2/31, Roy 2/9)

Left-handed opener Akarsh (72) kept Surana's chase on track with support from the middle order. But a late collapse compounded with some atrocious running between the wickets from Surana and brilliant fielding from St. Joseph ensured a narrow victory for the latter.

IISc trample MES

19 February 2012, IISc Gymkhana Ground, Bangalore: Living up to the tag of defending champions, IISc ruthlessly trampled MES College - belting a mammoth 207/6 in 25 overs and then dismissing the visitors for 139 - in their opening match of the IISc Centenary Cricket Cup 2012.

Choosing to bat first, Kiran (44) and Vikram (55) posted a 116-run blitzkrieg opening stand in 13 overs. Ashith (36), Salil (21) and Varun (22) continued the good work culminating in an colossal total of 207. For MES, Siri (3/34) claimed a three-for.

A required rate of more than eight an over was too much of an ask for the MES batsmen and they succumbed under the pressure. Nagging spells from Arindam (4/14), Ashutosh (2/36) and Anirudha (2/14) helped the hosts bundle out the opposition for 139 runs thus completing a 68-run victory.

18 February 2012, IISc Gymkhana Ground, Bangalore: The IISc Centenary Cricket Cup 2012 got off to a rousing start with Presidency College - runners up in the recently concluded KSCA inter-collegiate tournament - registering a polished 83-run victory over Christ University.

(Ashith 106, Prateek 3/40)
RVCE - 185/3 in 28.2 overs
